Sable

Go Back

(Hippotragus niger.)

This is one of the more expensive sought after trophy animals. They have white facial and belly markings with a black coat with ridged, backward sweeping horns.  Are known to be aggressive when threatened.

A typical herd will have a dominant bull but will be led by the oldest and wisest cow.  They are frequent drinkers and will keep near a source of water.  Both sexes carry horns, the cows being brown with more thinner straighter horns and the bulls are black in color.

They are most active during early morning and late afternoon.
