Hartebeest

Go Back

(Alcelaphus spp.)

The closest relatives to this animal is the topi, tsessebe, bontebok, and blesbok.  These animals prefer open grasslands and they feed during the cooler times of day. This animal makes for good hunting.

Both sexes carry horns.  The males are darker in color.  Horn bases of the males are bigger than those of the females.  The hartebeest has good hearing and a sense of smell but doesn’t have all that good eyesight.  They are most vulnerable at early and last light.

The Hunt:

Walk and stalk with a .270 as preferred caliber.
